Job Leads Be sure to check my updated list of open positions here. What's Going on in Classes CM 121: On Tuesday we will be discussing the cost of labor. On Thursday, we'll start talking about the cost of materials. Lab this week will include estimating footings. You will perform an estimate that includes a fully detailed estimate for the excavation and placement of concrete (that means takeoffs and detailed estimate of the MOLES) for the St. Francis High School Dining Hall. Once again, this is a big scope of work for a lab period, so eat a healthy lunch and get plenty of sleep the nigh before. CM124 Lab: Not sure. We'll all find out on Monday. But I think it's a good idea for you to bring your PPE to campus just in case. CM 126: PRESENTATIONS! We will start promptly at 1:30 and we have a lot to cover, so be on time! You will also be providing peer feedback to one-another. Presentations are scheduled for Monday and Wednesday. The order for each day will be revealed that day. In other words, show up.

Job Leads Be sure to check my updated list of open positions here. What's Going on in Classes CM 121: On Tuesday we will be discussing how to determine the productivity of labor. This is a major focus of this class and will be on the first exam (guaranteed). On Thursday, we'll start talking about estimating concrete. Lab this week will include estimating sitework. You will perform an estimate for various sitework elements and means for determining costs (including doing a detailed estimate of the MOLES components, using past subcontractor quotes, and an estimating guide). We will also be starting to estimate our first real project, the St. Francis High School Dining Hall. That's right: it's about to get real. CM124 Lab: Gareth has a cool site lined up on Monday at Prairie City Road and Willard Drive in Folsom, but the site only works for Monday's section. So, if you're in Wednesday's section, I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE you to attend the Monday lab section field trip. Bring proper PPE. If you cannot meet in Monday's section for the site visit, you will meet with me on Wednesday and do something much lamer. CM 126: Like the Navy SEALS say, "The only easy day was yesterday." This week is even more jam packed than last week. On Monday we will be talking contracts and subcontracts and many restrictions they impose or create, including "Buy American" clauses and utilization of local labor. We will also be discussing the St. Derek High School case so read it tonight. It was posted in SacCT and emailed to you on Friday. On Wednesday we will finish up contracts if necessary. We will also be discussing negotiating, a skill you will need to develop if you want to be successful in the construction industry. If that's not enough, we will also be discussing another case study that I will post on Monday. Get ready because we're about to go turbo. CM Department News

This week, I get the honor of joining Alyssa Zayas, Kim Braga, Mark Oliveira, Nate Boyer, Rob Clark and Preston Tziouvaras (I spelled that without looking it up, a first for me) to Chicago for the ASC Region 3 Healthcare competition.
